hey DJ come on in I want to share a tip
with you today I've shared this with
many of my friends and maybe it will
help you too
eating salads is something that I do
every day because it's filled with
greens and they taste good and so what I
want to do is to share with you about
how to mix your greens and how to store
them so that they will last longer than
just a few days because many times
you'll buy the big containers of salad
greens and they'll end up at the bottom
or on the sides looking like cook
spinach like mushy
well this if you use this tip you should
be able to to keep your greens for about
7 to 10 days depending on how fast you
eat it so let's get started the first
thing you do is you want to choose the
types of greens that you want to use and
one of my favorites is romaine lettuce
now I'd spy it in a bunch and that's
what my salad spinner is here for
because I've already washed this you're
gonna pull it apart wash it and then
you're gonna peel this down I don't
particularly like this stock many people
do so if you like it just throw it in
there but you want to cut it into pieces
that I call bite-size or a big enough to
get into your mouth with a fork so I
tear it and throw it into the salad
spinner and if you don't have a salad
spinner one of the things you can do is
to dry it with a paper towel just lay
the paper towels out and put your your
leaves on there now water comes out on
the side now they're all done I'm
transferring it to a bowl for I'm
actually going to mix the greens so this
is and because I usually am the one who
eats up most of this I make two bowls of
salad so I have one down here put most
of it in there and put some down here I
just buy also buy just the store-bought
whichever ones you want your favorite I
like baby spinach you can use that I
also like arugula but didn't have any so
I thought I'd try this one this time
it's called zesty Glen and you just rip
them open
they're already washed triple washed
which makes it very easy for you but
it's through this container that I
learned this method I taught myself this
because they were getting so mushy so
you take out your greens you're gonna
stick them in here this is what I'm
talking about when I say mushy this is
what it looks like it gets really sort
of slimy like and so I take those out if
you see those in your spinach or any
other greens take them out because
they're gonna start to make the other
greens also mushy okay so now they're
all it's all in this bowl and you're
thinking what do you do with it now well
what you're gonna do is you're gonna
take it and use your hands and mix it
and as you come across some little slimy
pieces you're gonna take them out but
just reach down in there mix it up and
if you buy a blend that you already like
then I'm gonna show you where you skip
to which step you skip to but I like
that the crunch of the romaine lettuce
and arugula and this one has radicchio
in don't really like radicchio a whole
lot but I know it's good for me so I
leave in a I'm gonna leave in a few
pieces and plus it looks pretty when you
put it on your plate and it's good for
you so in keeping it okay so now it's
all mixed and here comes the part that
is gonna make the difference between how
long you're actually going to be able to
keep your your your salad mixes get a
bowl and that and this is the trusty
item that you're going to use to make
sure that it doesn't get slimy it's his
paper towels and I get the small ones
because they work perfect
in your salad bowl and you put one on
the bottom I like to fold it because
it's right there at the bottom and there
just take a handful and put it in okay
that's the first part and then now
second part you're gonna put it
depending on how big your bowl is try
and cover all your greens so I put in
two pieces because they're small if you
use the big the big size full size paper
towels you just need one and then put
another layer of greens on top of that
and what will happen is that any
moisture from these greens will be
absorbed by the paper towels and your
greens will stay dry
and you will be able to use them over a
longer period of time okay so that's
that and then right on the top
you're gonna put two more pieces of
paper or one big one and then you're all
done with that you're gonna put this on
stick it in the fridge and like I said
mine usually lasts about a about a week
and or a little bit longer and so when
you want salad this is the best part
about it you go to your sink you wash
your hands really good and you find
yourself a bowl now you're ready to have
your salad go out into your refrigerator
you bring out your bowl flip off the top
got your two paper towels in keep those
in and you're just with your washed
hands you just reach in and you grab a
bunch of salad and throw it into your
bowl and you got a salad to eat and it's
it's gonna be dry and you can start to
eat it you can put on your favorite
dressing or you can add your favorite
toppings you know what the ones I mean
tomatoes chopped tomatoes ready to
carrot chopped scallions
tons anything like that you can just put
it on the top of this and you're ready
to have a salad it takes such a little
bit of time such few minutes or the easy
way the really easy way is just to get
them out throw them in the bowl and just
eat it put on your dressing and eat it
so you can always have a good salad no
reason to say that you can't eat greens
because this is a really simple easy way
to do it and they will last a while so
you'll be able to do this for about a
week or so okay so I hope that helps you
to stay healthy and to eat more greens
more salad
okay bye for now

My objective for this channel is to share with others what I have learned over the last 30+ years about living and eating healthier. I share my knowledge with my small circle of friends all the time. I am not a doctor, nor do I hold any type of medical degree, but I believe that my tried experiences may help someone else. For over 30 years I have used every diet imaginable to lose weight, but I confess that I am now at home using the vegan lifestyle. I want to share what I have learned about eating and enjoying food. And, since I am still learning how to be more consistent with this lifestyle, I have decided to eat more healthily, realizing the weight will come off eventually. Though I have not reached my goal weight, I know that sharing with other people in front of a camera with help me to stay on course. I have, with the help of my husband of 37 years, raised 3 grown children. I will also share some cooking shortcuts as well as some natural formulas I have used and still use for everyday problems.
